Motherwell lost 2-1 to Dundee at Dens Park, a result that extends their losing streak to three matches in the Premiership. Alex Lowry's goal just before half-time offered hope, but the visitors could not find an equaliser after conceding twice in the first half.

Joe Westley opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot after 22 minutes. The spot-kick was awarded after a VAR review, with referee David Munro checking the pitchside monitor before pointing to the spot. Dundee doubled their lead 18 minutes later when Bradley Fink found the net, capitalising on a cross from Ryan Astley.

Motherwell responded almost immediately. In the 44th minute, Tom Sparrow delivered a cross from the right and Alex Lowry headed home to give his side a lifeline. That goal was Lowry's second of the season in seven appearances, making him the club's top scorer.

Changes fail to spark revival

Manager Stephen Pressley made two changes to his attacking line, bringing Ibrahim Said and Seb Palmer-Houlden into the starting side. Jardell Kanga and Regan Charles-Cook dropped to the substitutes' bench. The alterations aimed to inject fresh impetus, but the team struggled for consistent end product in the final third.

Dundee goalkeeper Owen Goodman was largely untroubled after the break, while his opposite number, Paulsen, was called upon to keep the deficit at one. Emmanuel Longelo made a vital defensive intervention to cut out a dangerous cross as Dundee pressed for a third. Motherwell introduced Eythor Bjørgolfsson from the bench in search of a leveller, but clear chances were scarce.

The closest they came in the latter stages was a long-range effort from Joe Hodge that sailed over the bar with 11 minutes remaining. The 2-1 defeat leaves Motherwell ninth in the Premiership, with eight points from their opening seven games.

This loss follows a 4-0 home defeat to Aberdeen and a 1-0 loss at Rangers, forming a difficult run of form. The side now faces a lengthy break before their next match, a daunting home fixture against league leaders Celtic on October 11. Pressley's squad will be looking to regroup, with several players including Callum Hendry and Paul McGinn currently sidelined through injury.
