Motherwell's new manager Alfred Johansson is confident the team can build on its 'great foundation'. The Fir Park outfit finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership last season with 54 points, 14 wins, 12 draws, and 7 losses from 33 games.

What's the plan?

Johansson wants to introduce intensity, tempo, and playing out from the back as the hallmarks of his Motherwell side.

The former Rosenborg head coach has been impressed with the squad in his first few training sessions. He looks forward to the Conference League qualifiers against Havnar Boltfelag of the Faroe Islands next month.

Key expectations

"That's the good thing with having a strategy as a club and trying to go in the same direction, regardless of who the manager is," Johansson said. He expects to maintain the high standards set by his predecessor Jens Berthel Askou.

Summer recruitment

Johansson will have a big say in summer recruitment, both incomings and outgoings. He confirmed that top performers like Elijah Just, Tawanda Maswanhise, and Elliot Watt are "committed" to Motherwell.

As of the current season, Motherwell has scored 52 goals and conceded 29, with a recent form of 2W-1D-2L and a 2-game winning run. Their last result was a 1-0 win against Hibernian on 2026-05-16.
