Motherwell have completed the signing of Swedish U21 forward Jardell Kanga from Finnish club Ilves. The 20-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year contract on Friday, with the club holding an option for a further year.
The fee for the transfer is understood to be around £350,000, but substantial add-ons could see the total package rise to as much as £900,000. Kanga is the tenth new arrival at Fir Park this summer, bolstering an attack for a side currently sitting 6th in the Premiership with five points from three games.
Jardell Kanga is a 20-year-old attacker who has represented Sweden at U21 level. He began his senior career at a remarkably young age, becoming Brommapojkarna's youngest-ever player at just 15 years old in 2021. His career path has included spells with German giants Bayer Leverkusen, Dutch side De Graafschap, and Swedish club Hammarby. He spent the last two seasons in Finland with Ilves, where he registered 18 goals and 16 assists across 68 appearances. His performances there caught the eye of Motherwell's recruitment team.
Kanga's arrival adds another offensive option to a Motherwell squad that has scored five goals in its opening three league matches. The club's form reads DDW, with a positive goal difference of +1. His signing comes at a time when the squad is dealing with several absences, including Callum Hendry, Jordan McGhee, and Paul McGinn, who are all currently sidelined. Manager Alfred Johansson has a history with the player, having tried to sign him during his youth career. "When Jardell was playing youth football, there were a number of occasions I tried to bring him into my team, but circumstances meant this didn't happen," Johansson said.
