Motherwell secured a spot in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 extra-time win over St Johnstone, courtesy of Lukas Fadinger's decisive strike. The Austrian midfielder netted from a tight angle in the 108th minute to give Motherwell the win.
What happened?
Motherwell were unlucky not to break the deadlock as the interval approached, when Emmanuel Longelo's goal-bound low shot was turned over the bar by Saints defender Morgan Boyes from a yard out. Paul McGinn, Stephen O'Donnell and Elliot Watt also went close for the visitors, who had the better of the opening 45 minutes.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou praised his team's effort, saying they had to work hard to get the win. St Johnstone head coach Simo Valakari acknowledged Motherwell's intensity and pressing, which made it difficult for his team to play.
