Apostolos Stamatelopoulos has left Motherwell by mutual consent. The 27-year-old Australian international striker departs Fir Park to pursue opportunities elsewhere, ending a two-year spell with the Scottish Premiership side.
He scored 12 goals in 45 appearances for the club after joining in 2024. Last season included a loan spell with Sydney FC in the A-League, and he was an unused substitute in the recent Conference League play-off second-leg defeat to SC Freiburg.
Stamatelopoulos expressed his gratitude to everyone at the club. "I want to take this opportunity to thank the fans," he said on Motherwell's official website. "Everyone associated with the club welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home."
He added, "The fans, staff, and players have all been amazing during my stay in Scotland."
The announcement was made by the club on September 8. Motherwell currently sit fifth in the Premiership with eight points from five games. Their recent form shows one win, one draw, and three defeats from the last five outings.
Stamatelopoulos's career has included spells with Newcastle Jets, Adelaide United, and Western United in Australia, as well as stints in Greece with Rodos FC and PAS Giannina. He has earned one senior cap for the Socceroos.
His departure comes as Motherwell prepare for a tough run of fixtures, with a visit to league leaders Celtic scheduled for December 26.
